Yes! Every facial at Isla Esthetics is a custom facial tailored to your skin’s current condition, not just your skin type. Your treatment may be adjusted based on current dehydration, breakouts, sensitivity, texture, pigmentation, barrier health, seasonal changes, and your current home care routine.
Before: Arrive with or without makeup – either is fine. Come prepared to share your current products, skin concerns, allergies, medications, recent treatments, and any skin goals you have. Please let us know if you’re wearing contact lenses and need to keep them in.
For the best and safest experience, avoid using retinol, strong exfoliants, acne treatments, or harsh active products for about 5 to 7 days before your appointment, unless we’ve discussed otherwise.
Please let us know if you are using prescription products such as tretinoin, topical acne medications, hydroquinone, antibiotics, oral Accutane/isotretinoin, or any medicated creams.
Some treatments may need to be adjusted or postponed depending on the medication and your skin’s sensitivity.
You should also avoid heavy sun exposure, tanning, or waxing the facial area right before a facial. If you have a cold sore/fever blister/hsv breakout on the face, please reschedule your appointment or delay scheduling until it is fully healed.
After your facial, avoid exfoliating products, retinol, strong acne treatments, direct sun exposure, saunas, hot yoga, heavy sweating, and tanning for at least 48 hours, or longer if recommended (depending on type of treatment).
It’s best to skip makeup for the rest of the day if possible so your skin can breathe and fully absorb the treatment benefits. If you need to wear makeup the same day after your facial, choose something light and non-comedogenic (non pore-clogging), and make sure your brushes or sponges are clean.
Keep your routine simple for a few days before and after: gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF.
For general skin maintenance, every 4 to 6 weeks is ideal. This supports the skin’s natural renewal cycle and helps maintain long-term skin health.
For acne, pigmentation, texture, or more corrective goals, we may recommend treatments closer together at first, often every 2 to 4 weeks, depending on your skin and treatment plan.
A resort facial is often designed to be a relaxing, feel-good experience while you’re on vacation – beautiful environment, soothing products, and a brief moment of self-care.
Think of it like this: a resort facial is a fun escape. A boutique facial is where relaxation meets real skin progress.
A boutique facial experience is more personal and relationship-based. At Isla Esthetics, your facial is customized around your skin history, current concerns, home care routine, lifestyle, and long-term goals. Instead of a one-size-fits-all treatment, you receive thoughtful skin guidance, professional product recommendations, and a treatment plan that can evolve with your skin over time.
A corrective facial from a Master Esthetician in a boutique skincare studio is more goal-focused and may include deeper exfoliation, acne care, extractions, advanced modalities and targeted treatment products to address concerns like breakouts, texture, pigmentation, aging, or congestion.
Isla facials blend both: results-driven skin care with a calm, restorative experience.
Yes, facials can be very helpful for acne when done consistently and paired with the right home care routine. Acne-focused facials may include deep cleansing, gentle exfoliation, extractions when appropriate, calming ingredients, barrier support, and education on products and habits that may be contributing to breakouts.
For best results, acne care is usually a process, not a one-time appointment. We look at your skin with a holistic viewpoint – taking into account lifestyle and dietary factors contributing to the health and outside appearance of your skin and making suggestions to support the healing of acne.
Yes. Sensitive skin and skin with Rosacea often benefits from facials when the treatment is chosen carefully. We may focus on calming inflammation, strengthening the skin barrier, hydration, and reducing irritation triggers.
A gentle, calming home care product routine will be recommended to continue the support at home.
Not every facial needs to be aggressive to be effective.
Extractions are included when they are appropriate for your skin and booked treatment. We focus on safe, careful extractions that support the skin rather than overworking it.
If your skin is inflamed, very sensitized, or not ready for extractions, we may focus on softening impacted debris through gentle exfoliation, calming inflammation and strengthening the skin barrier first. Supportive home care products will be recommended to help the pore clearing process at home and for future facials.
Some temporary pinkness is normal, especially after extractions, exfoliation, massage, or active treatment products. Most redness calms within a few hours.
If you are receiving a more corrective treatment, chemical peel, or deeper exfoliation, downtime may vary. We’ll always talk through what to expect before your service.
Yes, but timing matters. For a glow-focused facial before photos, vacation, or a special event, booking 7 to 10 days before is usually best.
Avoid trying a brand-new advanced treatment, chemical peel, or intense extraction appointment immediately before an important event. We want glow, not surprise drama. Some skin can react with a temporary breakout (or “purging”) if not accustomed to facials and finding this out right before a big event is not what we want.
If you’re a future bride and seeking to improve your skin before your wedding day, we recommend The Seaside Bride – a customized pre-wedding facial series designed for brides who getting married in 4 to 6 months who want their skin to feel smooth, balanced, hydrated, and beautifully makeup-ready for engagement photos, bridal events, and the wedding day itself.
Please let me know before your appointment if you are using any prescription skincare, acne medications, retinoids, retinols, exfoliating acids, strong active ingredients, recent antibiotics or steroids. Products like tretinoin, Retin-A, adapalene/Differin, tazarotene, retinol, retinal, benzoyl peroxide, AHAs, BHAs, and prescription acne treatments can make the skin more sensitive during professional treatments.
For most facials, peels, waxing, dermaplaning, or advanced exfoliation, you may need to discontinue retinoids/retinols and other strong actives for several days before your appointment to reduce the risk of irritation, excessive dryness, sensitivity, or skin lifting. The exact timing depends on your skin, the product strength, and the treatment being performed.
If you are using a prescription from a dermatologist or medical provider, please follow their guidance first and check with them before stopping or changing your routine. When in doubt, we can adjust your treatment to keep your skin barrier safe, calm, and supported.
Our facials can be adjusted to be pregnancy-safe. Please let us know if you are pregnant or nursing so we can avoid ingredients or modalities that may not be appropriate.
We can still focus on hydration, calming, glow, and skin support.
In the later trimesters, you may not be comfortable laying on your back for a long period of time and may choose a shorter facial session for your comfort.
